Michele B. Friend Installed as the 58th President of the AAA-CPA U.S.

Michele B. Friend of Los Angeles, California was installed as the 58th President of the American Academy of Attorney-Certified Public Accountants (AAA-CPA) during the AAA-CPA Annual Meeting & Education Conference in Breckenridge, Colorado. Howard O. Bernstein of Boulder, Colorado became Immediate Past President.

Michele is a member of the law firm Clark & Trevithick in Los Angeles, California. For over twenty years she has provided litigation and general counselling services in the areas of business, real estate, employment and trust matters. Prior to law school, she was an accountant for a national commercial real estate management company, Forest City Enterprises.  Michele was lead counsel in the United States Supreme Court Amicus Brief filed by the AAA-CPA in Samuel Edelman and Louise Edelman v. New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, et al.

 Michele is the Immediate Past President of the Southern California Chapter of the AAA-CPA. She was the first woman to serve in this role. Michele previously served as President of the Beverly Hills Bar Association Barristers and has been an active member of several nonprofit boards and foundations. 

 Michele was introduced to the AAA-CPA when she was awarded the first Elmer J. Whiting Memorial Scholarship in law school. Elmer was President of the AAA-CPA in 1980. His career accomplishments were recognized in the U.S. House of Representatives Congressional Record, noting that he was the first black CPA in the State of Ohio and the first African-American to be named a partner of a Big-Eight accounting firm. Michele is honored to be a part of his legacy and she is committed to diversity in membership recruitment in the AAA-CPA.

 In addition, the following officers were also installed: Deron R. Harrington of Houston, Texas as Vice-President, Marc L. Schwartz of Chattahoochee, Georgia as Treasurer, Daniel S. Rosefelt of Bethesda, Maryland as Secretary, and Christina Scharar Doherty of Houston, Texas as Assistant Secretary/Treasurer. Member-at-Large Michael G. Polis of Sacramento, California and Past President Eric J. Rollinger of Rockville, Maryland have also been selected to serve on the Executive Committee with the newly installed officers.
