– Law Offices wins landmark case on behalf of the City of
Reykjavik before the Supreme Court of Iceland in a damages action
claim for breach of Icelandic Competition Act.
This
landmark case was the first before the Supreme Court of Iceland
pertaining to private enforcement based on a breach against the
Icelandic Competition Act.
A
damages action claim was brought against the three largest oil
companies in
Iceland
for breach against the Icelandic Competition Act. The oil companies
had admitted to price fixing, market sharing and bid rigging in the
City of
Reykjavik
’s 1996 competitive tender. The Supreme Court awarded the City
approximately USD 1.1 million in damages for the City’s loss.
